I Tested Myself for COVID-19 at Home with a TGA Listed Test and Got Results in 15 Minutes!

Supermarkets and chemists are said to be limiting purchases of Rapid Antigen Tests to two per shopper, in an attempt to prevent the same panic-buying that ensued throughout the pandemic.

You can order online now if you’d like to avoid missing out on providing for yourself, friends or family.

The tests, which can deliver results within 15 minutes, will be available in-store and for delivery for as long as stock lasts.

Supply shortages are likely to follow, as the supermarkets gear up for long lines.

Rapid Antigen Tests are becoming commonplace during the pandemic to provide quick results for individuals. The Victorian government purchased over 200,000 tests recently for trials in schools.

Due to their convenience, the tests are in high demand across the globe, with shortages ensuing as distributors try to keep up.

What are Rapid Antigen Tests?

The test are done the same way regular testing occurs, except this time without having to line up for hours and you can avoid the anxiety while you wait.

By swabbing up your nose and adding it to a solution with indicators before watching for an array of colors.

The results come back within 15 minutes (depending on how soon they process them) and make getting information much faster than waiting overnight for lab work.

So I can test myself within 15 minutes at home? But how do they work?

The cheaper, faster tests tend to work by detecting specific proteins, collectively termed antigens, on the surface of SARS-CoV-2 particles. These ‘rapid antigen tests’ don’t amplify what’s in the sample, so it can detect the virus only when it reaches a high level in a person’s body — with perhaps hundreds of thousands or millions of viral copies per milliliter sample.

If you test positive with a rapid antigen kit, a further PCR test is required.

Can they be used on children?

Yes – if you’re worried your child may have contracted COVID, rapid antigen tests can provide peace of mind.

Please note that a further PCR test is required to confirm all positive results from a Rapid Antigen Test.
